Big City Mountaineers
Big City Mountaineers is a national non-profit organization that works alongside the transformative powers of Mother Nature to provide wilderness-based mentoring experiences for under-resourced youth.
Their unique program model is designed to support kids in developing the perspectives and critical life skills that help them to thrive both on the trail and in their communities, including self-esteem, resilience, responsibility, communication, empathy, and teamwork. Big City Mountaineers currently operates youth programs in six major urban areas nationally, including Denver, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, and Boston.
Collaborative partnership is the lens through which Big City Mountaineers views all working relationships. Their partnerships with other youth development agencies, located in the regions in which they offer programming, allow them to target the youth that most need and can benefit from an opportunity with BCM.
They strive to be leaders in both the youth development space and the outdoor industry, working to improve meaningful access and relevant opportunities to youth from populations that are traditionally underrepresented and underserved. All of their youth programs are offered free of charge to participants; are guided by experienced, professional instructors; and supported by caring volunteer adult mentors.
