And KÜHL delivers with their FUGITIVE FLANNEL, one of my favorite flannels in my closet.
The FUGITIVE FLANNEL is a men’s long sleeve mid-weight flannel. It is amazingly soft and has a KÜHL’s signature stretch in it’s fabric. It’s breathable fabric moves with you for all-day comfort during the high and low-temperature swings of Fall.
Why is this one of my favorite flannels? It is thick enough to be warm on the coldest days, but it isn’t too thick to wear on warmer days. It’s fit is versatile enough to fit over a light base-layer, as well.
It’s fabric is a nice cut and allows for complete range of motion.
When KÜHL sent me the FUGITIVE FLANNEL to test, my first opportunity was at a Cub Scout camp. I was camp chef for 100 scouts and their parents.
Even while in front of our camp stove, moving and cooking for over an hour, I didn’t feel overheated or uncomfortable.
The shirt moved easily as I set up the tent, as well. One of my annoyances with shirts like these is that they are too light and ride up easily. Luckily this shirt didn’t.
The FUGITIVE FLANNEL also looks great. It is the perfect shirt for camping, but also works well in the office or about town. It also pairs well with our recently review RESISTOR CHINO.
I am definitely going to replace a few of my other flannels with the FUGITIVE.
I am 5’11” and 185 pounds. I tested a size large and found that it was true to size.
Here at Huck Adventures, we are huge fans of Ibex and their Merino Wool products. And now that it’s getting cooler, I am starting to pull out my Ibex Base Layers and my Wool Aire Hoodie to stay warm.
Those base layers and the hoodie were constant companions during a recent dad’s retreat in the foothills of Colorado. We were outdoors the entire time in 40°F temperature and a steady drizzle. But thank goodness I was prepared and was able to stay warm. Thanks Ibex!
Ibex had also sent me their Nomad Jogger to review and that retreat was the first opportunity I had to test them out. As activities shifted inside a small cabin with a smoldering fire, I traded out my base layers for the Nomad Jogger and settled in for the night.
The Nomad Jogger is made from lightweight, moisture-wicking merino French terry.
How light are they? When comparing them against a pair of Prana joggers, they weighed around 60% less.
The fabric is made of 95% merino wool with 5% elastane to help the fabric maintain its shape between washings. Merino wool is the perfect performance material due to its superhero-like properties.
Merino is a natural, high-performance fabric, in part because of the conditions these sheep live in. Winters can be as cold as -4ºF and summers as warm as 95ºF. Their coats have evolved so that the fibers react to the changes in body temperature. And this natural technology is passed along to its human wearers.
The Nomad Joggers also come with three pockets: two front hand pockets and a back pocket with a hidden zipper.
Sleeping in these was blissful.
Throughout the night, the fire died down and died out, and the temperature inside the cabin fluctuated. And these pants performed well. My legs didn’t get too cold or too hot. Just like Goldilocks, I was just right.
The next morning, we got up and hiked. The heavy, wet weather had lifted and as the sun came up, the temperature climbed with it. These pants continued to perform well. While my upper body got too hot for a jacket, my legs were still cozy.
Since this retreat, these joggers have continued to go on adventures with me. They are my go to pants for traveling and camping.
In the past, when we’ve cruised through Outdoor Retailer, there has been one booth that continued to stand out from all the other cooler companies. And that’s Rovr Products. What caught my eye was the evident hardiness of their coolers, their bright designs and bold branding, but most of all their thicc wheels.
We were built to roam and Rovr’s coolers were built to roll right alongside of us.
Rovr sent us their RollR 60 to test. And it arrived just in time for a local Cub Scout camp where I was Camp Chef, cooking for over 100 adults and kids. I needed something that could cart in all the cold food, including 30 pounds of smoked pulled pork, and keep all of it cold over the weekend.
Hands down, the RollR 60 is coolest cooler I’ve seen.
The RollR was built for keeping your food and beverages cool, but with portability and organization in mind.
It can hold 60 cans and hold 20 pounds of ice. With their dry bin installed, storage capacity changes, holding 40 cans and 10 pounds of ice in the main compartment and 4-6 bottles of spirits or various foods in the dry bin.
Besides being the coolest cooler from a product design standpoint, the RollR is designed to keep your stuff cool for up to 10 days (depending on use).
When we followed their method for ice retention (article forthcoming), there were still a couple of ice cubes left by the end of day 9. That in itself is pretty darn impressive and its due to the cooler’s high density insulation.
And as the ice melts, and water builds up, there is a DualSpout™ Plug to help with draining. The great thing about the dry bin is that as water builds up, your food stays dry. There’s a clip on the side of the cooler that keeps the dry bin from floating to the top, as well.
If you’re rolling your RollR into areas that have bears, this cooler is bear resistant. They also sell Bear Proof Locks that can attached to each corner for extra protection. But still, practice safe food storage whenever you are out in nature.
On the base of the cooler are two hearty wheels that are perfect for rugged terrain. When I arrived at the Cub Scout camp, I had a quarter-mile walk from my car, down a loose gravel trail. My 18-year old Igloo cooler wouldn’t have been able to handle it, but the RollR handled it with ease.
With the dual grip handle, I found it easy to pull the cooler behind me without it bumping against my heels. Likewise, while it was loaded with 80 pounds of food and ice, it wasn’t cumbersome. With one hand I pulled the cooler, while my other hand was free to haul a tent and duffle bag.
With the RollR cooler don’t forget to pick up a RovR® LandR™ Bin. This bin sits on top of the cooler, attached by Velcro straps. It’s great for storing extra snacks, water, or helping cart in additional campsite supplies.
If you do buy a RollR cooler, you also need to pick up their Essentials Pack. It comes with an attachable prep board, cup holder, and stash bag. These accessories make camp life a bit easier. The prep board makes for a great small cutting board or a small serving tray.
I can’t tell you how cool I feel toting around this cooler. I feel like a bad ass.
At the Cub Scout camp, dads were checking it out: opening and closing the lid, playing with the dry bin, and kicking the tires. It definitely catches the eye.
One other killer accessory this cooler has is a bike hitch. Oftentimes in our neighborhood we gather at our community part. And I can’t wait for the next opportunity to roll up with this amazing cooler!
Ranchlands is a Colorado-based family ranch that owns and manages livestock operations. Their mission is to promote the conservation of rangelands, their ranching legacy, and quality of life for people living and working on ranches.
A big part of how they bring their mission to life is through their ranch-based experiences. You can ride with bison, visit the Great Sand Dunes National Park, or hike the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Your experience can be topped off with a massage and a delicious dinner.
Ranchlands also has a wonderful mercantile store; complete with palm leaf hats and various forms of leatherwork, including bracelets, belts, and sheaths.
Their leather knife sheath is beautiful and sits perfectly on the hip.
It is made with natural veg-tanned leather. With light use, I could tell that the leather would gradually change color; developing a soft sheen. This is part of the beauty of leather-work, but also demonstrates the care that Ranchland put into their product design. Through use, this sheath will become uniquely mine. Someone else might have the exact same sheath design and the exact same knife that fits within it, but the patterns and colors developed over time will be my own.
The sheath is designed with a double-layered “pancake” construction so that it will last for a long time. The stitching is tight, as well. While testing, I tried to see how loose I could get the stitching, but it held up. It reached a point with the Moore Maker Trapper Knife where it would slide in and out easily, but wasn’t so loose where I could accidentally lose the knife.
It’s worth noting that the sheaths are molded specifically for the Moore Maker Trapper Knives. If you have a knife that you would like Ranchlands to create a custom sheath for, you can create a custom order on their website.
The Moore Maker Trapper Knife is a great pocketknife and perfect companion for whittling or for keeping on your hip for whenever a need arises. The blade folds out, but doesn’t lock; folding back in easily.
While I don’t work on a ranch, there’s been plenty of outdoor adventures where this knife and sheath have come into use. At a recent Cub Scout camp, I was the Camp Chef, and it was great having a blade on my hip to pull out and quickly slice into food packages. Likewise, it was a solid blade to share with my son for his whittling activities or for my own whittling while the scouts gorged themselves on s’mores.
This knife and sheath combo makes a great addition to my gear closet, but it will also make a great gift.
Check it out on their site and don’t forget: if the ranch life is calling, check out their immersive events.
Winter is right around the corner, and having fashionable attire you can layer and move in, is a must!
Whether in the garden picking weeds or out on the range doing target practice, the Maven Slim pants are the way to go. The stretch allows for easy mobility while the CORDURA® fabric ensures no tears while breathable.
I wore these jeans to the range and was impressed with how easily and swiftly I could move despite the slim fit! As a bonus, I received many compliments from both men and women at the brewery we visited immediately after the range!
If you are looking for a lightweight and durable flannel, this is the flannel for you. This flannel goes with me on all my camping trips because it is the perfect mesh of warm and breathable. I threw this on after a cold plunge and was ecstatic at how quickly it warmed my body and dried out!
This was my go-to all summer when the sun went down. It’s warm and goes with anything. I have washed this many times, and the color does not fade or shrink! The left chest pocket is big enough to hold my phone—an exceptionally made shirt.
Even though Summer is winding down, there is still plenty of time to get out onto the water.
Salt Life sent me a pair of their Sailing Tropics Boardshorts to test and they have been the perfect companion for water adventures: paddle boarding, wakeboarding, and swimming.
Salt Life’s Sailing Tropics Boardshorts are great. They are made from performance SLX-QD 4 way Vapor stretch fabric. It’s quick-drying, ultra-light, and super comfy.
There’s also a liner inside, which functioned great. Other boardshorts I have don’t have a liner and I have found myself getting chafed after several hours on the water. Not with these though! They fit comfortably, hitting above the knee, around mid-thigh, with an 18″ mid-seam.
Plus, these shorts are pretty darn cool and stylish. The colors on these really pop and stand up well after playing in salt water and after several washes.
The Performance Fishing Shirt is a full-button stretch woven shirt made of a wrinkle-free polyester blend. The fabric is treated for UPF30 sun protection and will keep you safe from the sun’s harsh rays.
The shirt is also moisture wicking, making it really comfortable on those long, hot days on the water; keeping you cool for all-day adventures. It also doesn’t stink after a full day outdoors thanks to antimicrobial properties in the fabric.
There is also a vented back with mesh breathability.

Our Review
Showers Pass sent us the jacket to test a couple months ago. It was perfect timing, because I was heading to Costa Rica in the middle of their rainy season. It was guaranteed that at least once a day, it would pour.
On one day in particular, we had hiked through the rain forest to a beach. We had only been there for 45 minutes, when it started to rain. And we had 1.25 miles to hike back with kids.
How waterproof is it? It’s 100% waterproof. That downpour was no match for this jacket. It’s not just water-resistant. It’s truly waterproof.
I was dry and comfortable and able to focus on getting my kids back to the car and mostly happy. I mean, they were getting rained on in a rain forest! How cool is that?
There’s been plenty of additional opportunities for testing. We’ve been getting a lot of rain–thank God–in Colorado. This jacket has accompanied me on many hikes and bike rides. Throughout our two months of testing, the waterproofing has remained solid!
The Timberline Jacket is waterproof due to the 3-layer waterproof-breathable Artex fabric.
The jacket also features reflective accents so you can have maximum visibility to motorists.
The Timberline Jacket’s fit is also very customizable. Which is great depending on your activity, temperature, or weather conditions.
The cuffs and waist of the jacket are adjustable, so that you can have it as tight or loose as needed.
The hood is adjustable, as well. It can be large enough to fit over a bike helmet or cinch down to cover your head on a hike.
The sides of the jacket feature large core vents to prevent overheating and double as pockets.
As Summer turns to Fall and we see our first snow, I’ll continue using this jacket. It’s built for layering and works really great with a mid-layer underneath.
I highly recommend this jacket for anyone that is looking to stay dry outdoors. Don’t let rain or snow stop you from enjoying the outdoors!
It’s available for men and women. I’m 5’11” and 185 pounds and wear a large.
Chubbies, known for their versatile men’s apparel, announced today that they are launching their first pants collection.
For over a decade, Chubbies has been perfecting shortswear. Their product catalogue is full of amazing casual and swim shorts. But now, they are playing the long game with The Everywear Pant.
The Everywear Pant is the ultimate performance casual pant. It features a super soft, lightweight fabrication with Chubbies’ signature built-in 4-way stretch for comfort and motion. These pants were designed to go everywhere and do anything.
“We’ve built a brand laser-focused on delivering weekend-ready apparel to our customers via proper-length shorts,” mentioned Rainer Castillo, Co-Founder and President of Chubbies. “But, seasons change, and poison ivy exists. Today, we evolve our brand to include a silhouette you can wear 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It’s still the same Chubbies… just a little longer.”
The Everywear Pant marks over 3 years of customer research, surveying, and wear-testing. Chubbies prioritized comfort and versatility in their product design.
The Everywear Pant’s fabric is water-resistant and wrinkle-resistant. They can be dressed up or dressed down. They were made for hikes, date nights, travel, and everything else in between.
Prior to their launch, Chubbies sent us a pair to test and I have to say, from the first time I put them on, I was in love.
These pants were so darn comfortable. The fabric was soft and light and when I took it out on the town and trail, I found that the fabric was pretty comfortable and breathable. Even on exposed hikes, I never thought to myself, “Boy, I wish I was in shorts.” That’s how awesome and versatile these pants are!
The design of the Everywear Pant is great as well. They come in a variety of colors and the ones I tested were a light grey. But the detail of the pants is what stood out. Inside each pocket is a little tropical floral design. It’s fun and matches well with the Chubbies shirt I was testing out as well.
I love the wrinkle resistance in the fabric, too. These came with me on a recent trip and when I pulled them out of my duffle, they were ready to be thrown on. No ironing needed.
The Everywear Pants are available for purchase today at noon EDT in stores and online for $94.50. Available in 6 colors and in sizes S-XXL.
